Modified Orange Route

Berry bypass - Orange route and modified Orange route

Orange Route

Modified Orange Route

The Orange route generally follows the existing highway until the northern entrance to Berry. The route then curves right onto and along the North Street reserved corridor. This route rejoins the existing highway as it passes under Kangaroo Valley Road in a cutting.

Opportunities

  • Minimise severance of high value agricultural land and property acquisition.
  • Opportunity to mitigate flooding impacts at Berry.
  • Improves pedestrian safety and amenity within Berry shopping precinct.
  • Uses existing North Street corridor as identified in current land use planning.
  • North Street remains as a service road for residents.
  • Retains visual connection to Berry Township.

Considerations

  • Noise and potential visual impact to North Street residents.
  • Requires new access to sportsground.
  • Noise and potential visual impact to sportsground and Camp Quality.
  • Impacts the Pulman Street heritage precinct.
  • Provides a modern bridge near the Pulman Street heritage precinct.

The modified Orange route turns west of the existing highway immediately north of Berry, at the RTA stockpile site, crossing Broughton Mill Creek and Woodhill Mountain Road. The route skirts the northern side of the playing fields and rejoins the North Street corridor approximately halfway along its length.

Opportunities

  • Opportunity to mitigate flooding impacts at Berry.
  • Improves pedestrian safety and amenity within Berry shopping precinct.
  • Uses part of existing North Street corridor as identified in current land use planning.
  • North Street remains as a service road for residents.
  • Retains visual connection to Berry Township.
  • Avoids Pulman Street heritage precinct.
  • Avoids sportsground and limited impact on Camp Quality memorial park.
  • Moves bridge away from Pulman Street.

Considerations

  • Some acquisition of agricultural land and property.
  • Noise and potential visual impact to North Street residents.
