RTA modifies Gerringong access options
The consultation period for access options between the future upgraded Princes Highway and the towns of Gerringong and Berry has now closed.
There was a strong and enthusiastic response from the community, with more than 700 written submissions received and hundreds of people attending displays and information sessions.
The issue of how the highway links with Gerringong and Berry is extremely important, and this was reflected in the strong level of community interest during the five week consultation period.
As a result of community feedback the RTA has reviewed two of the options put forward, the G2 and G3 options.
Two modifications of the G2 option and one modification of the G3 option will now be included in the value management process for further assessment.
The “G4” option proposed by a group of Gerringong residents had some technical constraints, however the concept behind it, two interchanges allowing all turning movements to and from the highway, will be included and assessed in the value management process.
The community response at Berry focused on road safety, local traffic management and visual and noise issues.
The value management workshop on November 18 and 19 will involve key stakeholders comparing and evaluating the access options in a structured way to get the best outcome possible with the available resources.
The RTA will publish a summary report of the workshop outcomes as soon as possible.
The value management workshop is just one of the processes that will go toward determining the preferred access arrangements for Gerringong and Berry.
Community feedback and further technical investigations that will be carried out over the next six months will also form the basis of the RTA decision.
